Fair Use Policy
Conword is software designed to help people understand the content of websites.
Conword is not software for search engine optimization (SEO) or for generating multilingual content. The content generated by Conword is only displayed to the user and is not stored on the customer's CMS.
Our Fair Use Policy states that Conword should be used precisely for these purposes. Specifically, this means that content should only be translated by users and not by bots or crawlers.
For this reason, it is prohibited to offer automatically translated content—for example, by parameterizing URLs.
Example: If you have a parameterized page, such as https://webseite.de/artikel-xy/?english, Google (and other bots) will also notice this. As a result, a large number of pages are automatically crawled and translated. A quick calculation: With 15 languages and 15,000 subpages, this results in 225,000 page-language combinations.
Conword's business model only works as a "fair use" model. This means that not everything can be translated automatically; only what is requested is translated.
Solution for parameterized pages
Conword offers its own parameter so that pages can still be sent in different selected languages: conword_translate=[language code]
Example: https://conword.io/?conword_translate=es
A modal box (pop-up) appears for the Conword parameter, in which the selected language must be confirmed. The modal box prevents bots from translating and thus prevents automatic translation.
